ITV's adaptation of Richmal Crompton's timeless William novels unfolded over 1977. Adrian Dannatt excelled as William with Bonnie Langford playing the romantic intherwest.
Nigel Hess, a regular on these pages, created the jaunty theme for the inferior 1994 BBC series which failed to capture the era as well as its predecessor.
I don't think I agree.. having just watched episodes of both.. I think the 94 version is better than the earlier one and Oliver Rokison is a great William! William was aged 11 in the books, and Adrian Dannatt was 14 when he played the role - he was just too old in my opinion.

Nigel Hess wrote the music for the 1994 BBC series of Just William, not the earlier series.
Thanks - I was getting muddled. Photo and review amended.
This picture is of William and his friend Henry at the village fate.
